"silent night, oh holy night, all is calm, all is bright"
I'm just going to dive right in. I warn you that this post is very star fucky. First of all,
loved the Rufus Wainwright family Christmas show. I'm not even sure what the actual name of the event was actually. The whole trip was threw together at last minute. But it was just gorgeous. The only low point was Boy George (Starfuck 1. Was stood next to him after show!). His keyboard version of White Christmas was kinda like a bad hotel number. Martha and Rufus were great but someone I'd never called Ed Harcourt blew me away with his version of BB King's "Merry Christmas, Baby". He also did a great duet with Martha on "Fairytale of New York". My highlights were Guy Garvey's version of Joni Mitchells "River" and the audience participation number "War is Over". Overall it was kinda depressing, but in a good way!
I was supposed to go home after seeing the show but after someone posted a competition to Graham Norton's show on
robertdowney_jr community I blindly entered. You had to tell a funny story about Robert or if you had met him. As my entry was "I've got no stories and nor have I met him but this would be a step in right direction" I really didn't think I'd hear back but totally, total providence I did! I roped in
wigmaker and booked a hostel for the night. Next day we went to the show (Starfuck 2. On way there we saw Victoria Wood, Ronan Keating and guy out of the Kumars) and they gave us wristbands. Weird coincidence was meeting the same guy who signed me into Most Haunted in Liverpool last year. He said the same exact thing when he got my surname wrong then as well! They put us in the studio canteen while they reserved the seats (Starfuck 3. While in canteen an awed hush descended as Paul Merton entered. We then saw James May, Avid Merrion, Ed Byrne and that black, American comedian who I think is called Reginald something. He said hello after I laughed in his face in a psychotic "I've seen you on the telly, I have" manner...). When they took us through we had signs on our chairs with "RESERVED FOR ROBERT DOWNEY JR FANS" (which I so stole to take over various rooms in my house) and were third row right in front of sofa! The show itself was really, really funny and RDJ is ridiculously hot in the flesh. When he first came on Graham was asking him about the cement (really going into detail on that cement) at Chinese Gauhm theatre and RDJ was like "this is an entertainment show, right?". It picked up after that and we got to see clips of Holmes and they did a funny Chaplin sketch. Also Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang got a shout out! Love! Can't wait to see it! It's on BBC 1 at 10.30pm Monday Look out for me, we were sitting in front of RDJ's wife. Oh, God. Just remembered we spoke to her about the signs on our chairs *facepalm!* I wish I'd have clicked onto that sooner, I wouldn't have been so forthcoming about my diabolical plans for her husband. After the inteview someone screamed "I LOVE YOU, ROBERT!" (it wasn't me!) and Ed Byrne yelled back "I'll just go fuck myself shall I?". Ha!
I was woken next day to "BON JOUR!" "BON JOUR!". I swear for five minutes I thought I was in Beauty and the Beast. Then I remembered.
Hostel. The steps were down off the top bunk were like an assault course for SAS. Even harder carrying a fuck off bag. I then met up with
royaltyisshe64 for a pigeon attacking, George Brent hating, cup of coffee in Victoria. I'd like to reiterate I usually am more polished then that, hostel life does not agree with me. Even if it was one night. My whole psyche just fell apart under the pressure of
sharing with others.
So basically a pretty awesome trip to London. Apologies for any missing R's. There appears to be a bit of bread under the "R" key so am having to punch it to get it to appear. Pretty hard on a post all about people named Rufus and Robert...
On with the advent meme!
